The Padmavat Diet
14.02.2018It’s safe to say that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavat’ was his most polarising movie yet. Dividing opinion across the country, whether on cultural infringement or freedom of speech grounds, the movie captured the imagination of India for months and continues to do so.
If there’s one unanimously agreed upon facet of this movie, it was the impressive physique of the male leads Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. Playing the antagonist and the protagonist respectively, these two actors served as prime examples of fitness regimes and specialised diets working together to produce more than ideal physiques. While their methods might have marginally varied, their results were nothing short of extraordinary.
Shahid Kapoor’s regime was framed using a strict diet over 40 days. Brown rice and steamed vegetables constituted a bulk of his diet, devoid of salt and sugar as well.
He consumed small meals like sweet nuggets made of coconut milk and bowls of cut mangoes at regular intervals. Greens like broccoli, kale, and spinach along with legumes rich in protein constituted his afternoon meals.
This largely Asian diet proved to be very effective when combined with functional training, cross fit training, and exercise regimes with ladders, tyres, ropes, and sand bags.
Ranveer Singh’s diet, on the other hand, shared similar principles but differed in its manner of execution.
His breakfast meals included a well-rounded diet to fuel the system, consisting of mostly egg whites, some chicken, fresh fruits and vegetables. Snacks through the day included almonds and walnuts before each main meal. Lunch roughly constituted of protein-rich foods such as thyme-roasted chicken, stir-fried lamb, and honey-dressed Salmon with a bowl of stir-fried vegetables.
His training regime was largely governed by cardio sessions in the mornings and weight training in the evenings. Daily training schedules involved 10 minute warm up sessions and 20 minute High Intensity Interval Training, followed by functional training.
Ranveer personally also recommends staying away from alcohol as it weakens the immune system. He suggests eating simple home-made food in controlled portions if elaborate meal plans cannot be adhered to.
Diet and exercise when combined together with regularity, consistency, and discipline can go a long way in helping you achieve amazing physical conditions that you might have otherwise thought of as unachievable.
